3 Tips For Having A Smart Child!

People often say that children who travel are smarter, this statement is not true.  It is not traveling that makes children smarter.  Any child exposed to something new will ultimately become smarter, whether you travel or learn it in your backyard.  Most parents want to have children who are considered smart.  When our children are smart it makes us proud to be their parents.  Is there a way to Bring Out The Best In Your Child?  Yes!  As long as you make an effort to teach your child new information, your child will be smart.

Every child begins life with the same amount of knowledge, knowing  absolutely nothing!  Over the course of growing up children are broken into two groups, those that are considered smart and those that are considered not smart or otherwise known as stupid.   I believe there is no such thing as a stupid child only children who were taught often by their parents or guardian, and those who were not fortunate enough to have someone teaching them.

Educational scholars have often referred to children as sponges, soaking up their environment.  In essence the scholars are saying that children will only learn what they are exposed to.  If every child had a parent or guardian that spent time teaching them each day ,every child would be considered “smart.”

When children are not in an environment that encourages learning they become less and less interested in learning.  I believe the sooner we begin to teach children, the more likely it is that they will become interested in learning.  So, how can we the parents influence how smart our children will become?  There are three tips that we can apply that will ensure that our children will have a bright future.

1. Pray–   Often people over look the power of prayer.  However, the key to getting our desired outcome is asking the only person who has he ablity to give it to us, and that is God.   When King David passed away and left the throne to Solomon , Solomon found himself in a difficult situation.  In his own eyes he was not prepared enough to be king.  Solomon prayed and asked God to give him wisdom to lead the people.  God answered his prayer, not only did God give Solomon wisdom but also wealth, possession, and honor.  If you go before the Lord on behalf of your children, God will answer your prayers.

2. Use every opportunity to teach your child- The only difference between those who are “teachers ” and those who teach is that we realize that teaching is not always done in a sit down setting.  We use every chance we get to expose our children to something new or to reinforce what we have already taught them.  In Deuteronomy 11:20 we are instructed by God to teach our children his ways as often as possible.  The same is true for anything else we want our children to learn.  We must combine frequency with repetition to help our children develop.  It may become mundane to you but your children will love it.  Have you ever notice how children will watch the same movie over and over for days or weeks or even months without getting tired of it?  Well, that’s because that is how they learn best, by frequency and repetition.

3. Make learning fun!  Do not push your child to learn for long periods of time. Children are naturally eager to learn, if you make it fun you will not have to make them sit still.  Find out What Type Of Child You Are Teaching by using different methods for  teaching. Once you are aware of your child’s ideal way of learning you can use that method  as often as possible to teach them new things.

Challenge: Observe your child over the course of a week. Whatever subject you find them lacking in, pray and ask the Lord to give your child understanding in that subject. Look for opportunities to enhance your Childs understanding of that subject. If your child is struggling with math use a snack to help them understand it better. For example, Sarah I have two cookies but I would like three more. Have Sarah give you three more cookies. Ask her to tell you how many cookies you have now. Break the cookies apart and say 2+3 = 5.  This is a stress free environment and fun. Her reward will be eating the cookies!
